Belarus Elections

In connection with the Belarusian  Presidential elections scheduled for Sunday, December 19, 2010, local media have reported about plans for a post-election demonstration Sunday night on October Square (Oktyabrskaya/Kastrychnitskaja ploshcha) in central Minsk. 

We remind U.S. citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational.  U.S. citizens are urged to avoid the areas of demonstrations if possible and to exercise caution if near any demonstrations. Please seek to stay informed of events through media reports, be aware of your surroundings and listen to instructions of local officials.
