U.S. and British Embassies Honor Veterans

Ceremony at the American Embassy

Ceremony at the American Embassy

The U.S. and British Embassies in Minsk held their first joint commemoration of Veterans Day and Remembrance Sunday at a ceremony at the American Embassy on November 11, 2012.  The ceremony featured readings of the famous World War I poems “In Flanders Fields” and “Memorial Day,” as well as a minute of silence in honor of all veterans, followed by the trumpet solo “The Last Post.”  In his remarks, Charge d’Affaires Ethan Goldrich paid tribute to veterans past and present, noting that “what we now have to show for the service and sacrifice of so many of our soldiers, sailors, and airmen, is a vastly changed Europe where the horror of general war is unthinkable, and where even here in Belarus, we can see the vision of a Europe, whole, free, and at peace as within our grasp.”
