U.S. Embassy Announces Government-Sponsored Academic Exchanges for 2003-2004 (September 17, 2003)

The Embassy of the United States of America in Belarus September 17 announced the U.S. government-sponsored academic exchange programs for the 2004-2005 academic year. The programs are:

The Future Leaders Exchange Program (FLEX)
The Eurasia Undergraduate Program (UGRAD)
The Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program
The Fulbright Program

The programs are sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the Department of State. The Bureau fosters mutual understanding between the United States and other countries through educational exchange and training programs. These programs also support the economic and political development of the emerging democracies of Eurasia.

Competition for the programs is merit-based, and selection will be made on the basis of academic excellence, leadership potential, knowledge of English and the designated fields of study, and preparedness for study in the United States.

Students or scholars who take part in these programs must return home for two years after the completion of their programs and are not eligible for visa transfers or extensions.

Applications are available at the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy and the American Center for Education and Research. For more information on these programs, please contact the American Center at 228-7264. You may also contact the Public Affairs Section at 217-0481, or visit our web site at http://minsk.usembassy.gov.
