Press Release on the Roundtable on the Eve of the International Human Rights Day (December 9, 2005)

On December 9, U.S. Ambassador to Belarus George A. Krol and Her Britannic Majesty's Ambassador Brian Bennett, along with European Union Heads of Mission, conducted a joint round table discussion with representatives from Belarusian human rights organizations on the eve of the UN International Human Rights Day. Ambassador Bennett, speaking on behalf of the EU, and Ambassador Krol emphasized the shared concern of the EU and the U.S. over the state of human rights in Belarus and expressed their support for those who promote human rights and defend the dignity of the Belarusian people. Ambassadors and the rights defenders agreed about the need to work together to develop and nurture a culture of human rights, to promote freedom, security and peace in all nations.
