Ambassador Krol Donates Materials to American Corners in Mogilev, Belarus
U.S. Ambassador George Krol on May 26 donated equipment and English language publications valued at $8,928 to the American Corner in the Regional Public Library in Mogilev, Belarus. The donation included a TV/VCR, DVD player, 52 videos, 10 DVDs, 21 CD-ROMS, USG publications, English teaching materials, and 20 posters.
Ambassador Krol received a warm welcome at the library where he was greeted by Ms. Alla Vasilenko, Director of the Library, and Ms. Svetlana Kozlova, Deputy Head of the Cultural Department of the Regional Executive Committee. Ambassador Krol visited the USG-sponsored IATP (Internet Access and Training Program) site, located in the library. Following the official donation ceremony, he toured other parts of the library, including the Belarusian Department. The more than 30 guests at the presentation ceremony included representatives of cultural institutions, library staff, media representatives, and high school students who are studying English.
More than 1,300 Belarusians have visited the American Corner since it opened in 2001.
