On February 24, 2009, Chargé d’Affaires Jonathan Moore visited Logoysk in the Minsk oblast to present the Logoysk Central District Hospital with medicines donated by private U.S. manufacturers Sydis Cadila and Gilead Sciences. The medicines for Logoysk arrived as part of a shipment valued at over $4,982,000 destined for hospitals throughout Belarus. The donation will allow treatment of about 3,400 patients over nine months. The U.S. Department of State covered shipping and administrative costs for the donation, which was coordinated by the American charitable organization CitiHope International and the Belarusian NGO Nadezhda Express with the cooperation of the Belarusian Ministry of Health. During his visit, Mr. Moore took part in the official hand-over ceremony, met with the medical staff and local officials, and had a brief tour of the hospital facility. On December 12, 2008, Chargé Moore paid a similar visit to Polotsk, where he presented American medical supplies to the local Interdistrict Oncological Dispensary.

Since 1991, the United States has provided over 270 million U.S. dollars’ worth of humanitarian assistance to the people of Belarus.
