Teachers from the Rural Area of Minsk Region Learn about the United States First Hand
Teachers visit IRC to learn about Embassy's resources and initiatives
A monthly program for 22 teachers of English from rural schools and small towns took place at the Public Affairs Section on December 7. The program has been a successful partnership project with the Minsk Regional Teachers Retraining Institutes, which is a state institution for teachers’ professional development outside Minsk. In the framework of the “Embassy Speaker program,” Econ Officer David Strashnoy talked about education in the United States and tendencies in learning foreign languages. He also shared personal experience in getting university degree in law school. In a lively and informal conversation the teachers also actively compared and discussed American and Belarusians society and family values, cultural diversity and national identity, music, literature, cuisine. After meeting with the Embassy official, the teachers visited the IRC to learn about Embassy’s resources and initiatives. They also all received the latest Forum magazines, the Sketchbook publications, some copes of the electronic journals, selected webliography and Embassy promotional materials.
