Future Library Professionals Receive Internship Certificates

Presenting the project: “Search the ProCite 5” electronic catalogue user guide

On December 15, a group of twelve junior students from the Information Sciences Department of the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts were awarded with certificates in  recognition of their successful completion of the internship program in the Information Resource Center.  The IRC staff, university professors and the intens  made presentations of their internship projects -  the “U.S. Libraries in Second Life,” “U.S. Experience in Information Literacy Lobbing” and “Search the ProCite 5 User Guide.” The interns also thanked the Embassy for the opportunity to gain  professional experience and knowledge, life-long research skills and friendly atmosphere during their internship at Public Affairs Section. The university professors also thanked the Embassy and acknowledged the success of the IRC internship program, naming it well-developed, efficient and the most effective one (internship programs are also run by the National Library, National Library of the Academy of Science and the Central Minsk Public Library).

The six-week IRC internship program took place in November - December 2011. The students developed information literacy skills, participated in six of the Embassy speaker programs, took part in the CoNx web chat on education in the U.S., took part in the Embassy sponsored national conference on “New Technologies in Libraries” in addition to working on specific projects (upon request of the Belarusian Library Association).
