U.S. Agricultural Expert Meets Belarusian Counterparts
Dr. David Lee, a professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Management, Rutgers Cooperative Research and Extension, Rutgers State University, carried out an intensive program in Belarus May 22-28. Lee had an excellent opportunity to become familiar with Belarusian agriculture in general and farming in particular. He was briefed about ongoing agricultural reforms and the development of the farmers' movement in Belarus by the head of the Belarusian Union of Farmers. At a roundtable arranged by the Embassy's Public Affairs Section, Lee addressed 25 Belarusian farmers and faculty members of agricultural research institutions, discussing dairy and crop farming in the U.S. and dairy production on Belarusian farms. Lee went to the Gorki Agricultural Academy, the leading agricultural institution in Belarus, together with DCM Connie Phlipot, both of whom met with the Academy's leadership and visited its dairy farm. Lee's program in Belarus included visits to four farms in the Minsk and Grodno regions.
