Ambassador Stewart Visits New Life Church

On November 2, 2006, Ambassador Stewart joined European Union Heads of Mission in visiting the New Life Church. In responding to a journalist's question about the purpose of the visit, Ambassador Stewart commented that she "came because freedom to worship is one of the basic human rights that all of us, including Belarus and the United States and other countries, are committed to uphold. We know this particular church has been going through a very rough time very recently. My European colleagues and I wanted to come out and see the situation for ourselves. And I wanted to be able to show our support for Belarusians trying to assert their human rights.”
