The Jazz Ambassadors Trio in Minsk

The Jazz Ambassadors Trio, including Virginia Mayhew on tenor saxophone, Allison Miller on drums and Gary Wang on electric bass, visited Minsk April 24-27 within the framework of the New Independent States tour sponsored by the Department of State. The trio from Brooklyn, NY featured the music of Louis Armstrong, honoring the centennial of his birth in 1901.

The Jazz Ambassadors' program in Minsk included a number of master classes at the Belarusian State Academy of Music and Belarusian State University of Culture as well as a public concert for local jazz lovers. Within the framework of the trio's program in Belarus, U.S. Embassy Minsk sponsored a paper show "Louis Armstrong - The King of Jazz" exhibited at the National Museum of Fine Arts.
