Hospital in Druya Receives $84,200 U.S. Assistance Shipment (June 21, 2005)

On June 17th, 2005, the U.S. Embassy Minsk Defense Attache's Office under the direction of Major John Pilloni, USA, on behalf of the United States European Military Command, helped deliver a shipment of humanitarian assistance items worth $84,200 to the regional hospital in Druya, Belarus. The shipment included appliances, bedding, furniture, medical supplies and equipment to assist the Druya medical facility in providing medical treatment and services to the local population.

U.S. European Military Command excess property shipments, organized by the European Command Humanitarian Assistance Office, previously provided assistance to the Emergency Hospital in Gomel and Regional Hospital No. 1 in Turov.

The U.S European Command Humanitarian Assistance Excess Property Program coordinates its activities with the U.S. Department of State. Items distributed through the Humanitarian Assistance Excess Property Program include clothing, blankets, furniture, medical equipment and supplies, tools, generators, construction equipment, vehicles, school equipment and supplies and office equipment, furniture and supplies. All materials provided under this program are for the primary benefit of civilians in the recipient country. Funding for the Excess Property Program is provided from the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Peace Keeping and Humanitarian Assistance managed by the Overseas Humanitarian, Disaster and Civic Aid appropriation. U.S. European Command funding of excess property projects for fiscal year 2005 is 1 million U.S. dollars.
