U.S. Embassy Minsk Supports UNHCR Film Festival
In commemoration of World Refugee Day, U.S. Embassy Minsk sponsored the showing of the U.S. film, I Am David, on June 20 during a five-day film festival coordinated by the Minsk office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The Embassy's support for the project underscored the U.S. Government's continued support for refugees and its intention to alleviate the hardships they endure.
In remarks at the screening, U.S. Ambassador George Krol outlined U.S. efforts to help refugees, noting that the U.S. is the single highest donor to the UNHCR. The U.S., he noted, is one of the main destinations for refugees and, as a nation, it has greatly benefited from their contributions. Ambassador Krol also explained that the State Department has established an office especially to deal with refugee issues.
