On April 22, Chargé d'Affaires Johnathan Moore unveiled a photo exhibit dedicated to the Earth Day 2008. Sponsored by the Embassy Minsk and Pobeda Movie Theater, the Earth Day photo contest attracted the attention of 80 amateur photographers from all over Belarus who submitted over 300 works. Their impressive photographs showed the beauty and power of the natural world, those eternal values, that we should all cherish and protect.
In his welcome remarks to the audience of some 50 photographers, art critics and journalists Chargé d'Affaires Moore noted that “illustrating the culture and perspectives of the United States is one of the key responsibilities of our Embassy. For example, the Embassy since 1991 has hosted numerous cultural programs, including performances by dancers and musicians from the United States and from Belarus, and has sponsored over 2,100 persons in exchange programs ranging from the fields of culture and education to agricultural development.” The Embassy awarded a grand prix and ten special prizes for photographic achievements in various nominations. The exhibit opening received a good coverage by local media.
