Embassy Statement on Release of Political Prisoners

The Embassy of the United States of America in Belarus welcomes the early release from prison of Yekaterina Sadovskaya, Pavel Severinets, and Nikolay Statkevich.  At the same time, we repeat our call upon the Belarusian authorities to release remaining political prisoners Dmitriy Dashkevich, Artur Finkevich, Aleksandr Kozulin, Andrey Klimov, Nikolay Avtukhovich, and Yuriy Leonov.

The United States urges the Belarusian authorities to respect the rights of the citizens of Belarus to free speech and association.  Consistent respect for those rights is the path to improved relations between our countries.
