Deputy Chief of Mission Jonathan Moore

Jonathan Moore arrived in Belarus on July 25, 2006 to serve as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Minsk. From August 1 until the arrival of Ambassador Karen Stewart on September 18, 2006, Mr. Moore served as Chargé d’Affaires a.i.
 
Mr. Moore joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 1990 and was first assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade. He was a desk officer for the former Yugoslavia in the State Department from 1993 to 1995, and was the Political/Economic Section Chief of the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius, Lithuania from 1995 to 1999. After a one-year assignment as a Congressional Fellow in the Policy Office of Speaker of the House Hastert, Mr. Moore was the Deputy Director of the State Department’s Office of Russian Affairs from 2000 until 2002, serving also as that office’s Acting Director for several months in early 2002. He then worked as Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Windhoek, Namibia from 2002 to 2005. In his most recent assignment, Mr. Moore was a 2005-06 National Security Affairs Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution.

Mr. Moore and his wife have two daughters. He has received several Superior and Meritorious Honor Awards from the U.S. State Department, two awards for language proficiency from the American Foreign Service Association, and the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Grand Duke Gediminas from the President of Lithuania. Mr. Moore speaks Serbian, Lithuanian, and some Russian, German, and Danish.
