American Modern Dance Visits Belarus

The September 16th performance of the Liss Fain Dance, a modern dance company from San Francisco, marked another successful cultural program jointly carried out in western Belarus by the U.S. Embassy Minsk and Grodno Regional Drama Theater.  The U.S. artists, including eight dancers, a choreographer and two supporting staff, performed their European premiere of FLOOD to a local audience of over 400 in Grodno.  The piece is an innovative collaboration of choreographer Liss Fain, visual designer Matthew Antaky and filmmakers Drew Takahashi and Richard Kizu-Blair.  In her introductory remarks prior to the show, APAO Elisabeth Wilson noted the importance of joint U.S.-Belarusian projects in the sphere of culture and arts and expressed hope for more collaborative programs in the future.  Following the performance, the American dancers were showered with applause and cheers.

At the invitation of Belaya Vezha theater festival in Brest and Grodno Regional Drama Theater, Liss Fain dancers performed and taught modern dance in western Belarus with the support from the Trust for Mutual Understanding and U.S. Embassy Minsk.  
 
During their stay in Grodno, the American performers gave a number of interviews to local media outlets, including Vechernny Grodno weekly and Grodnenskaya Pravda daily.
