Charles Ansbacher Conducts Minsk Orchestra In Third Concert
Dr. Charles Ansbacher, conductor and founder of The Boston Landmarks Orchestra, paid his third visit to Minsk April 2-9 to continue the collaboration started in 1997 with the Belarusian State Symphony Orchestra. Following six days of intensive rehearsals with the Belarusian musicians and a young violin soloist from Monaco, Ansbacher conducted a concert featuring "The Planets" by G. Holst; S. Barber's "Adagio for Strings," performed in memory of Pope John Paul II; and other works. Sponsored by the Belarusian State Philharmonic Society with U.S. Embassy support, the concert was held in conjunction with the "Minsk Spring 2005" International Music Festival. More than 600 persons attended the event in the newly renovated Main Concert Hall of the Belarusian State Philharmonic Society. During his stay in Minsk, Ansbacher interacted with local conductors and orchestra managers at a roundtable discussion on the theme, "Managing and Conducting Orchestras in the U.S."
