On October 12, Chargé d’Affaires Ethan Goldrich met with a group of 28 English language teachers from rural schools and small towns in the Minsk region. This meeting launched the U.S. Embassy Speaker series with the Minsk Regional Institute for Education Development for the new academic year. CDA Goldrich talked about his educational background, milestones in his diplomatic career, hobbies and family traditions. He also shared impressions of his first few months in Belarus and Belarusian traditions and cuisine. The talk led to a lively conversation about public/private schools in the U.S. and teaching foreign languages in high schools. CDA Goldrich also discussed professional and educational exchange opportunities for Belarusian specialists and students.

Also, as a part of the program, the Information Resource Center Assistant  made a  presentation on services and IRC resources, including the Facebook page, selected mailing lists and English teaching resources available on-line and in the IRC. The teachers also learned about the current "Books that Shaped America" project and got acquainted with new arrivals in the IRC. They had a tour of the IRC and received thematic information packages including the latest copies of the English teaching “Forum” magazine as well as IRC promotional materials.
