Charge d’Affaires Donates Books and DVDs to Baranovichi City Library
Donation of over 145 titles of books and DVDs by the U.S. Embassy and opening of the “My America” travel photo exhibit took place at Baranovichi Central City Public Library on September 23, 2010. The event was attended by over 60 professors, students of the Baranovichi State University and school teachers. “Thanks to our work together the library today is a unique source of information about the United Stated for high school and university students, teachers and librarians, and indeed all inhabitants of Baranovichi. I am confident the photo exhibit and the new resources will attract even more readers to the library and help them and others not only practice English but also learn more about the United States, its people, its culture, and its history. Today we have gathered to reconfirm the partnership between the Central City Public Library of Baranovichi and the United States Embassy in Belarus. Our presence today shows that both sides are committed to expanding that cooperation. We hope to support providing free Internet access in the Central City Library as we have for others.” - said CDA Michael Scanlan at the official ceremony. The Library Director Ms. Alekseenko and the Principal of the non-governmental “My Favorite School” educational institution Ms. Bykhovets expressed sincere gratitude to the U.S. Embassy for the donation and photo exhibit. Head of the Cultural department of the city executive committee Ms. Fursa noted that the cooperation between the Central City Library of Baranovichi and the U.S. Embassy was important and expressed hope that it would continue.
