Broadway Night Show Enjoys Success in Brest and Minsk
Beginning of Broadway Night show in Brest
The collaboration between the U.S. Embassy Minsk and the Belarusian State Academic Musical Theater (BSAMT) on the production of West Side Story gave birth to another excellent joint project called “Broadway Night,” that also involved the participation of the Washington-based Company E choreographers and its chorographer Paul Emerson and dancers Jason Ignacio and Kathryn Pilkington. The show, which featured hits from famous Broadway musicals, including Chicago, Cabaret, Cats, Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, and modern choreography pieces received a warm welcome from the Belarusian audience who had a chance to enjoy the show in Brest on June 6th and in Minsk on June 8th.
In his welcome remarks introducing the program to the viewers in Brest, Charge d’Affaires Michael Scanlan noted that he applauded “the creative vision and dedication of the Belarusian actors and the Musical Theater management.”
The show in Minsk, was hosted by the open air Museum of Folk Architecture and Everyday Life in Strochitsy, brought together over 2,000 fans of musicals and modern choreography. The talent of the Belarusian and American artists, live music performed by the BSAMT orchestra, and the beautiful landscape of Strochitsy's countryside made Broadway Night show a unique cultural initiative truly appreciated by the audience.
