Young Belarusians Learn about Cultural Management in the U.S.

Charles Ansbacher
Dr. Charles Ansbacher, American conductor and founder of the Boston Landmarks Orchestra, visited Belarus on February 9-14, 2009, to perform with the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Belarus. During his fourth return to Belarus and collaboration with the Belarusian State Philharmonic Society, Dr. Ansbacher gave presentations on cultural management to students and faculty from Belarusian State University on February 10 and the Belarusian Academy of Music on February 11, 2009.  Over 60 attendees learned about the Boston Landmarks Orchestra and its functioning and asked numerous questions about Dr. Ansbacher’s personal experiences working with the world’s best orchestras, including the best ways to get funding, the role of government in managing culture, and techniques for managing the orchestra.  A concert featuring musical works by Beethoven, Rossini and Dvorzak at the Belarusian State Philharmonic on February 13, topped off Dr. Ansbacher’s successful program in Belarus. The program provided an excellent opportunity to introduce American culture and management to youth audiences as well as spotlight fruitful cultural collaboration between the U.S. and Belarus.
