The U.S. Embassy will hold its fifth annual “Ambasovishcha” festival of Belarusian music at the U.S. Ambassador’s residence in Raubichi on June 24, 2009. This year, eleven bands will participate, representing various regions of Belarus and musical genres. An American band, “The Gifted Children”, from Rochester, New York, will perform at the festival as special guests. The band comes to Belarus at the invitation of the U.S. Embassy and is also scheduled to play on June 23 at the Rock House Café, Nemiga 12, at 9 p.m.
Since the Embassy’s first festival of Belarusian music in 2005, the Ambasovishcha festival has become an annual tradition and the premier event in the Embassy’s cultural calendar. Over the years, several dozen bands and solo performers from all over Belarus have taken part in Ambasovishcha, playing all genres from metal to folk. The festival has included both up-and-coming as well as well-known bands. Each Ambasovishcha festival involves a strictly democratic process for determining the year’s festival winner: the best performer is selected by popular vote of the audience.
The audio from Ambasovishcha 2009 will be broadcast live via Internet (http://racyja.com/, http://euroradio.fm/).
